Louisa Burton

Louisa Burton has an abundance of charm and a knock-out smile, the proverbial girl next door, with an enviable talent for writing in various genres, including our favorite: smart, sizzling hot, toe-curling, steamy erotic fantasy. We're pleased Louisa agreed to give us a guided tour through her talented pen via FictionCraft, a monthly column featured in Author Resources.

About Louisa Burton:

Louisa Burton

When Louisa Burton was thirteen, she and her twin sister figured out how to pick the lock on a drawer of their father's that held a cache of classic Victorian erotica. So even if she wasn’t quite "born to write porn," as she is wont to say, she did start training for it at an early age.

Louisa is the author of House of Dark Delights, the first book in her Hidden Grotto series of erotic fantasy for Bantam Books, which is also being published in Germany, Spain, and Serbia. That’s right, Serbia. A character in the series, the trend-loving satyr Inigo, naturally has his own MySpace page at www.myspace.com/inigothesatyr. A mystery slut her entire life, Louisa combined that genre with Victoriana to write the Gilded Age historical mysteries for Berkley Prime Crime as P.B. Ryan. Murder in the North End is the fifth book in the series. As Patricia Ryan, she has written seventeen historical and contemporary romances, all with a high level of eroticism. Silken Threads (think Rear Window in medieval London) won Romance Writers of America's RITA Award for Best Long Historical Romance in 2000. Her romances have been published in more than twenty countries. But not Serbia.

Louisa has taught novel writing at Writers & Books, the Rochester, New York, literary center, for some fifteen years, and has given dozens of workshops in various venues. Before they started paying her to make stuff up and teach other people how to make stuff up, Louisa worked in the publishing industry in New York City and Rochester, as a promotion manager and editor. She is delighted to be writing a column for ERWA.
