About Lisabet Sarai:

When I was in fourth grade, I drew pictures of sexy, full-bosomed, wasp-waisted, wide-hipped girls in bikinis, and sold them to the boys in my class for a quarter each.

The first poem that I find among my papers was written at age seven; it may not be the first poetry that I wrote.

It seems that I have always been fascinated by sex, its mysteries and revelations, its thrilling complexities and variations. And it seems that I have always loved words, the way they can create entire new worlds of the imagination, emotion and spirit. In writing erotica, I unify these two passions.

I was one of those children who stayed inside "with my nose in a book" until mother forced me outside to play. I began writing almost as soon as I learned how to form the letters. I have written plays, poems, technical specs, advertisements, grant proposals, research reports, love letters, marketing brochures, song lyrics, and a five hundred page dissertation, plus four erotic novels (so far) and dozens of stories.

For years, I wrote erotic stories and kinky fantasies for myself and for lovers' entertainment. I never considered trying to publish my work until I picked up a copy of a Black Lace novel while sojourning in Instanbul. Something clicked when I read Portia da Costa's "Gemini Heat". I found it simultaneously intelligent and exciting. It was the way I wanted to write. I submitted a proposal to Black Lace, and was astonished when they accepted it. "Raw Silk" was published in April 1999, and all at once, I was an official erotic author.

Currently, I live in Southeast Asia with my talented, tolerant husband and a pair of fine felines. Both my profession and my inclinations lead me to travel, though, so next month I might be in New York City or Prague, Rio or Kathmandu.

In honesty, I must confess that this picture is not current. But it is a picture of me, living out a particular fantasy. It is, perhaps, my vision of what a writer of erotica should look like. For a more recent and enigmatic photo, please visit my website,  Lisabet Sarai's Fantasy Factory.
