Necessary Madnessby Lisabet Sarai
Lisabet Sarai known for her BDSM novels Ruby’s Rules and Raw Silk, heads into new territory in her m/m erotic paranormal suspense novel, Necessary Madness. Police Sergeant Rob Murphy picks up a drunk and disorderly vagrant young man, Kyle, who babbles about a horrific fire. Rob is able to get an address where the fire is supposedly burning from Kyle before he passes out in Rob’s arms. While he suspects Kyle may be on drugs or be schizophrenic, he sends another cop to check it out. Rob is closeted, and plans to stay that way, but it turns out that there was a small electrical fire on the roof of the building he mentioned. The firemen were able to put it out before it got out of control. But it could have turned into the scene Kyle described if they hadn’t found it so soon. Rob tells himself that he’s only going to thank Kyle for warning them about the fire, but the truth is that under all that dirt, Kyle’s a hottie. Kyle explains the vision as part of his psychic curse when Rob visits him in the hospital. Kyle admits he’s been in and out of psychiatric hospitals, so mental illness is a possibility. Rob tells Kyle that he doesn’t believe him. That’s nothing new to Kyle, so he’s not offended. When Rob touches Kyle’s hand, a spark flies between them that mystifies the men. Other sparks fly too. Rob may be closeted, but he can’t resist Kyle, so he invites him to stay over at his place a couple days until he recovers. Kyle has another vision, but it’s of hot sex with Rob, so he agrees. It’s not as if he has any other place to go. While Rob tries to keep his hands to himself, Kyle wants to make the most of his brief stay. It doesn’t take long for them to get into bed. However, Rob still refuses to accept that his visions are real, even with mounting proof that they are. Angry, Kyle takes off. While he wanders the streets, he has his worst vision ever – of his death. Rob finds Kyle and brings him back to his place. Finally, Rob confesses to Kyle that his sister was psychic with strong powers that made her a recluse. She found someone to help her though, and seemed to be on the verge of a happy, independent life. Then she was murdered. Her unsolved death weighs heavily on Rob’s mind. Kyle decides to investigate the murder on his own. He finds a woman who helped Rob’s sister control her power, and says she can help him. Unfortunately, his stronger visions and efforts to control them bring him to the attention of a psychotic who uses black magic to steal psychic powers. If you’re a fan of m/m paranormal suspense, you’ll probably enjoy Necessary Madness. Lisabet Sarai knows how to weave an erotic tale. Kathleen Bradean
